The Sky’s The Limit
Do you love choice? Do you love the possibility that awaits when you have options? If so, then you are probably a big fan of the Sky Bar. When it comes to chocolate bars, this is the king of possibility! With caramel, vanilla, peanut flavored caramel, and fudge all in one bar, how could you not adore it? But wait! Do you know the history of this fabled treat? If not, read on to find out more.
Sky Bar’s Debut
Way back in the day, a chocolate bar was just that. Chocolate. You might have been able to get a chocolate bar with nuts, but typically, pure chocolate reigned supreme. It was simple, classic, and the status quo. That is, until 1938. It was during this year that the Sky Bar came onto the candy scene and forever changed how people viewed their snack time.
Comprising of four different sections with four different chocolate covered fillings, Sky Bars were an innovative and exciting candy breakthrough! In fact, Necco was the first company to create a bar with four special sections. Talk about a candy revolution!
Sky High
Naturally, such an exciting candy had to be introduced in an exciting way as well. So, for their initial advertising campaign, the company advertised the bar with skywriting! Advertising the Sky Bar with skywriting! Clever, right? But Necco’s very visible presence in the air did not end there!
When the blackout and curfew were lifted in Times Square after World War II, only six display signs had their lighting equipment ready. And as you may have guessed, Necco’s Sky Bar was one of them! Now if that’s not fantastic advertising, I don’t know what is! You can bet that all of Time’s Square learned about Sky Bars on that night. And their sales were probably through the roof the next morning!
Even today, the Sky Bar is the only candy bar to have four different flavors in one bar! And they still taste as good as they did back in 1938. So I guess you could say that the Necco Sky Bar has always been head and shoulders above the rest.Â
