MEMORIES OF A VALUED EMPLOYEE WHO MADE AMAZING EASTER BASKETS…

One of the first employees at McKeesport Candy Co. was Betty Esenbacher, hired by my grandfather, Ernest Prince, when the company was founded in 1927.
She continued to work for my father and was a fantastic employee who never missed a day of work in over sixty (60) years. Her claim to fame was that she made the most beautiful Easter Baskets!
Not a year went by when she didn’t surprise my family with baskets filled with jelly beans, unique chocolate items, and other holiday candies.
Whether home or away, these marvelous creations never failed to astonish!
Speaking of chocolate, to this day, I remember my surprise at receiving a five (5) pound solid chocolate poodle, not to mention countless other treats like Pecan Nougat Eggs and Easter Pez Dispensers.
Betty was the first to introduce us to the local chocolatier we have worked with for over 70 years, who still uses original recipes and vintage copper molds!
Betty passed away in 1990, but generosity remains a benchmark for celebrating Easter.
She was a valued employee, friend, inspiration, and "patron saint" of McKeesport Candy Co.
