Recently I wrote about the history of the Ferrara Candy Company and how their candies came to be. When I wrote this article, my mouth watered the whole time. Honestly, it was torture not to have them in my mouth, but I waited for this very moment.
It is time for me to taste these Ferrara Candy Company delicacies, and I cannot wait.
First is the Jaw Buster (Jawbreakers); I established so much respect for this candy while writing Ferrara Pan's history section. It was the first of its kind, and both of the other sweets are branches of this original concept treat.
I have always been a bit intimidated by Jawbreakers because they are usually giant candies that look like they take years to get through but now is my time to try one.
Flavor Profile: Sweet, subtle, smooth, classic flavor, and long-lasting.
Overall Feelings: I have to admit I am a candy biter (don't shame me) so eating this candy kind of scares me, but I loved it! It's perfect for a sweet little pick me up in the middle of the day.
Jaw Busters are for everyone with beautiful colors and smooth sweet flavor as long as they have a sweet tooth (everyone who is patient enough not to bite them).
Recommendation Level: 10/10 - Everyone needs to try this classic candy at least once in their life.
Next up, we have the Atomic Fireball. Honestly, I am so confused about how spicy candies exist. I feel like I have had an Atomic Fireball before, but I can't remember. So now is the time. I like spicy food, and I love candy, so this mix sounds perfect…but will it be for me?
Flavor Profile: Warm, spicy, packs a punch, and settles down.
Overall Feelings: Wow, trying this was a strange experience. I now understand how candies can be spicy, and reading the history of this candy has made me appreciate how unique this candy truly is.
An Atomic Fireballs isn't a candy I would reach for every night, but it is a candy that people can have fun with, and that's what candy is all about.
Recommendation Level: 12/10 - It is unique and surprises you with how it can be both spicy and sweet. It's a must for everyone to try.
Now is the one I am most excited about… the Lemonhead. Growing up, every time my parents had a lemon on their glass of water at a restaurant, I would immediately claim it…and eat it.
I love sour candy and food. I can never get enough of it. However, before writing about its history, I never had noticed the deep layers to Lemonhead, and now that I do, it's hard not to be absolutely in love with this candy.
Flavor Profile: The perfect mix of being both tart and sweet, soft outside shell, hard sweet inside, and flavor develops the longer it's in your mouth.
Overall Feelings: I love the soft sour shell of the candy that coats the hard sweet inside. This candy has many different dimensions making it unique and different. It provides both a soft sour candy and a sweet hard candy.
Recommendation Level: 10/10 - If you love lemons, sugar, and sour candy. It's such a delicious lemon candy that brightens your day.
Learning about these candies before trying them has grown my love and appreciation for them.
