My favorite candy is Reese’s. I can’t resist the glorious cups that melt into my mouth and always have me reaching for another one to unwrap.
Each time a new Reese's candy is released I run to the store and clear off the shelves. With the most recent release, the Big Cup with Potato Chips, I had my eyes peeled everywhere I searched until I finally found them.
My quest for that new cup was well worth it. The perfect balance between the saltiness, sweetness and the nice crunch of the potato chip filled my mouth with edible joy.
Each new Reese's product has its own unique flavor, like the big cup with potato chips. Many ask how is that even possible there is only so much you can do with peanut butter, chocolate, and add-ins? I say the possibilities are endless.
Reese’s cups provide people with the perfect combination of both delicious chocolate and smooth creamy peanut butter. This perfect balance between the two has captured America's hearts, being the top-selling candy for years and there is a secret to why we all keep coming back.
Why do I long for that sweet peanut butter sandwiched between chocolate? Do you ever wonder about the secrets held within the walls of Reese's factories?
That secret is called the golden ratio, at least that's what I like to call it.
The golden ratio is more conventionally known in terms of the mathematical concept but in the world of chocolate, I define the golden ratio to be the secret behind their success. I started this concept of the golden ratio related to Reese’s a few years ago when I discovered that I didn’t love all cups equally.
I have always been a long-time fan of the big cup, the one with more peanut butter than chocolate. This got me wondering about how anyone could ever pick up a classic cup over a big cup. Why would anyone choose the basic version when it could be amped up with a bit more peanut butter? This is because of the golden ratio.
The golden ratio is everyone's unique preference for a specific percentage of chocolate to peanut butter in a Reese's cup. Some like the overpowering peanut butter only dipped in a bit of chocolate, others like a hunk of chocolate with a dash of peanut butter, and some like it just right with a fifty-fifty split of peanut butter to chocolate.
The variation on the classic cup started only a few years after the first Reese’s was made. Ever heard the saying “the customer is always right” well Reese’s has. They play into their customers' taste buds and desires by changing their ratios and add-ins throughout their different peanut butter products.
To rank their ratios you must try all of the Reese’s. Do you like the holiday, standard, mini, or a nutty ratio? That is what makes Reese’s so special. As long as you like peanut butter and chocolate you will be embraced by their creamy and delicious arms.
Next time you unwrap a Reese's cup remember the ratio specific to that cup. Good luck on your journey to finding your own golden ratio to Reese’s!
