If you thought there was only one flavor variation of the ever-so-popular Smarties Candy, you are wrong, and so am I.
A few weeks ago, when I stepped into our Candy Favorites warehouse, I was shocked to see that there was more than one flavor of Smarties. I guess it makes sense; most candies have some flavor variation. Still, I have never heard of one for Smarties and never even thought of it possible.
Today I bring you the taste test of the century, at least for me, it is.
This will be a showdown of three flavors of Smarties: the Original (the one we all know and love), the Tropical pack, and the X-treme Sour pack.
I will rate each Smartie pack on its flavor, and then I will rank my favorite! These three flavors are the only flavors of Smarties on the market right now. Still, I feel like most people only know about the original.
Time for the Taste Test …
The Original Pack: 9/10. I love how sweet and tart they are all at the same time. These tiny little sweet discs remind me of my childhood and bring back good memories.
The Tropical Pack: 7/10 This flavor pack was sweeter and less tart than the original. I'm not sure if I would categorize it as tropical flavors. I would say it is just sweeter; however, they are good.
The X-treme Sour Pack: 8/10 These were pretty sour, sourer than I expected for a Smartie. They are not as sour as a Warhead, but I liked them.
So my ranking would be the Original Pack in 1st, with the X-treme Sour Pack close behind in 2nd, and the Tropical Pack in 3rd.
Since I just taught you all about the different Smarties, I feel it's only fitting to teach you more about the famous candy brand. After all, part of the purpose of this blog is to make you smarter!
The company is a family business that started in 1949 when Edward Dee moved from England to New Jersey.
This small business that turned into a sweet success started with two machines and a dream. Dee founded Ce De Candy Inc, which made Smarties. They later changed the name to Smarties Candy Company in 2011.
Dee even created a Canadian version of the Smarties Company that produced Rockets, the exact product just under a different name. As the saying goes, " if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
The company is still owned and operated by three family members, the founders' granddaughters, Sarah Dee, Liz Dee, and Jessica Dee Sawyer.
I always wondered if the different Smarties discs were differently flavored or just all the same within each pack.
Through my extensive Smarties research, I learned that the six other colored discs randomly distributed through the Original flavor pack are individually flavored.
The white discs are flavored with orange cream. The orange ones are just orange-flavored. The yellow is pineapple, the purple is grape, the pink is cherry, and the green is strawberry.
I hope this post helped you learn more about the world's smartest candy. I recommend picking up a pack or two to test out the flavors and find your favorite!
