Earth Day is all about saving, and we think it's important to save your favorite candies from extinction. Over the years, so many delicious, ingenious candies have gone the way of the dinosaurs. We can't take our favorite candy for granted, or we may never see it again.
In the spirit of conservation, we're giving away some great nostalgic candy prizes. It's our way of spreading the love of retro candies and making sure that future generations get to enjoy the same flavors we savor today.
To enter, share your favorite memory of an already extinct candy. Or tell us about the candy you believe should be saved for posterity. Just leave your story in the comments on this post to enter. We'll announce the winners early next week!
Don't forget to do your part for the planet. Buy online to save gas. And always dispose of your wrappers responsibly.
This candy isn’t extinct, but it has been changed. Brach’s Neapolitans. It used to have a layer of caramel, now it is white, pink and dark brown coconut only. The caramel added a certain lasting quality. It was also fun to bite off the different layers to get to that golden caramel.
My favorite were weird little penny candies called Squirrel Nut Zippers. They were sweet and chewy and nutty — and lasted longer than any other candy, which was my number one criterion.
We still have those, too!
Bring back Brach’s Milk Chocolate Stars to the stores! My father always loves those and they are not available in the stores anymore! He keeps them in a tiny tin can next to his desk at his home and his grandchildren love to come over and get one of “Poppy’s chocloate stars”! It’s a memory he is building with them! They are also great as a topper to the “Peanut Butter Blossom” cookies instead of chocolate “kisses” because they are softier on the mouth to eat than the sharp point of the kiss…(and you don’t have to unwrap all those kisses, Brach’ milk chocolate stars are already unwrapped!)
Hi, I’n not sure if a candy is endangered if it is already gone, but I’d love to see the 7up candy bar back from Perarsons candy co. I was an indecisive little kid, and could never make up my mind of what to get. More often than not, I chose the 7up bar. First of all it was dark chocolate, which I love. Second was that it had seven choices which I also loved. Lastly, one of the seven flavors of candy was the Jelly candy. I always saved the Jelly for last because it was my favorite, and you could only get that type of candy from a high end candy counter. Thanks for the memories. KK
When I was a child, my delight in life was a UNO candy bar. My sister, cousin, and I never had enough money to buy each of us one, so we would split one three ways. I always dreamed of the day when I could buy as many UNOs as I wanted and eat them all. When I finally could afford them, however, I found that chocolate caused my migraines. Now that I am old, my chocolate sensitivity has faded, so once in awhile, I buy a UNO and eat only a third of it.
